Get ready for a weekend of fun, community, and fantastic pickleball! The annual Big Island Open is back, and this year promises to be the best one yet.
We're thrilled to be sponsoring lunches for this event at the beautiful Rutgers Tennis Center at Hawaii Preparatory Academy, where the courts will be buzzing with action. With over 64 players competing across three divisions, you’re guaranteed to see some exciting matches.
But this is so much more than a tournament—it's a chance to make a real difference. The Big Island Open is a key fundraiser for the Big Island Giving Tree, an incredible organization dedicated to supporting our island's houseless families and our beloved Kupuna throughout the year. By joining us, you're directly contributing to this vital work. We'll be presenting the funds raised on Sunday, November 9th, and we’d love for you to be there to see the impact we can make together!
How You Can Help:
Join the Fun! Come on down! There's no better way to spend your weekend than cheering on our players and soaking up the vibrant, community atmosphere. Buy your spectator tickets today and be a part of the excitement.
Win Big with Our Raffle! Try your luck for a great cause! We have an amazing raffle with prizes totaling over $2,500. Tickets are just $10 each—a small price for a chance to win big and support our neighbors in need.
So, what are you waiting for? Come for the pickleball, stay for the community, and leave with the joy of knowing you’ve helped. Let’s fill the stands and show our island spirit!
We'll see you there!

Gary and Barbara Zipkin present Donation of $23,000 to Rhonda Bell, Director of the Big Island Giving Tree
(Waimea, HI) On November 9-10th, 2024, 49 players (Kristina K paired with Nicole K and played on Sunday) competed in 3 divisions of 16 over two days, playing 15 games at HPA Tennis Center, leading to a 2-game medal round Sunday. Delighted to say that everyone came with a great attitude, great sport spirit, and a great desire to compete at their highest level.
"We raised $4,000 in entry fees, $3,000 in raffle ticket sales, and BIg Island Giving Tree received 3 separate donations in honor of our tournament totaling $4,500, for a total of $11,500. Even more incredible, and because he IS so incredible, Bob D has agreed to double every dollar raised — so BIGT will ultimately receive $23,000!! Not bad for a little tournament sponsored in part by our club and supported by 4 great restaurants (Merriman’s, FORC, Fairmont Orchard and Tommy Bahama’s), by Revive 5 Spa, and by 3 local golf courses — Mauna Kea, Hapuna, and the Village Course here in our village." "Barbara and I extend our deepest gratitude to all of our sponsors." said Gary Zipkin.
Our blessings and thanks to everyone! Mahalo!
